There’s excitement in the air this weekend as SK Dance & Musical Theatre prepares to open the doors to its brand-new studios at Tower Mill, Dukinfield. The move marks a major milestone for founder Vicky, whose dream of creating a permanent, professional hub for dance and musical theatre in Tameside has finally become a reality.
Originally from London, Vicky has spent years immersed in dance education, including nearly a decade teaching at the prestigious Brit School before moving north to Manchester. “I wanted to build something of my own,” she explained. “We offer everything from ballet to tap, jazz to acro, we do it all here. Having our own space means we can finally bring everyone together and create a real family atmosphere.”
Until now, SK Dance & Musical Theatre operated across rented halls and sports facilities, which made it difficult to expand. “We used spaces like Astley Sports Village and various church halls,” Vicky said. “But it came with lots of restrictions, timetables, limited hours, so launching new classes was tricky. After four years of hard work, we’ve finally found our home at Tower Mill, and I couldn’t be prouder.”
The new premises feature two large studios, a spacious reception area for parents, and a secure, purpose-built environment designed for children as young as one. Safety and inclusivity are key priorities. “We’ve thought of everything, down to the padding on the poles and key-coded access for families,” Vicky explained. “It’s completely self-contained, so everyone can relax knowing their children are in a safe space.”
More than just a dance school, SK aims to become a community hub. Vicky envisions the studios as a shared space, open not only for dance and musical theatre classes but also for local groups and small businesses. “We’d love to host parent and toddler sessions, yoga, even coffee mornings,” she said. “It’s not just for us, it’s for everybody.”
As the Academy prepares for its grand opening this Sunday, excitement is building among families and students. The launch event will include free classes, performances from students, and stalls from local businesses. “I’m nervous but thrilled,” Vicky admitted. “We’ve got lots planned, from singing performances to taster sessions, and it’s going to be a wonderful day to meet new faces and celebrate how far we’ve come.”
With its focus on professionalism, inclusivity, and community, SK Dance & Musical Theatre’s new home at Tower Mill looks set to dance its way into the hearts of Dukinfield residents.
