Rosehill Methodist Academy raises thousands for Pixie-Belle

Children and staff at Rosehill Methodist Academy have raised thousands of pounds for charity in honour of one of their own.

Six-year-old pupil Pixie-Belle Rose is currently undergoing treatment at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital for a rare brain tumour.

Since her diagnosis, Pixie-Belle’s family and friends have been fundraising for the hospital’s £4m iMRI appeal and Rosehill decided they would do their bit too.

Every child took part in a mini-triathlon where they set their own three challenges, before they took sponsorship forms home and gathered money.

The children alone raised an amazing £2,082.

Then, some members of staff ran the Manchester 10K in May and staff held a bake sale in the staff room, bringing the overall total raised by Rosehill to £2,815.43.

Teacher Alison Wise said: “It’s an amazing total, especially from a school like ours. We’ve got a lot of families who don’t have a lot to give, but because it was for Pixie and they all know her, they’ve really, really got behind it. It’s absolutely incredible.”

On Friday, Rosehill held a special assembly to celebrate their achievements as well as ‘Pixie’s Belles’ a group of her family and friends who also ran May’s Manchester 10K, raising a further £4,582. 

The school mayor, Glorienna Taylor, handed over Rosehill’s cheque to Aimee Green, a Community Fundraising Officer for the RMCH charity. 

Aimee said: “Everyone at Rosehill Academy has been fantastic in supporting the charity and Pixie-Belle – we’ve been really touched by how much they’ve done for us.

“The Great Manchester Run 10K runners and everyone who took part in the mini-triathlon did so well – a lot of hard work went into these events and every single person involved deserves a special ‘thank you’. You’re our fundraising heroes.”
