Road closures due to resurfacing works across Tameside

A number of roads across Tameside will be closed for repair work over the next few weeks.

The ‘2026 micro surfacing programme’ will start today (September 14) and is scheduled to be completed by October 3. It forms part of the £3.494m Highways Maintenance Grant – to be used across 2026/27.

The road repairs will come in stages across Mossley, Hyde, Ashton and Droylsden. The roads will need to be closed so work can be carried out effectively. 

Tameside council papers have advised that the works are weather dependent so work dates are variable. Residents would be informed of any changes, it is understood.

This comes just months after Tameside council promised to invest £45m in road resurfacing across five years. 

Much of that work will be done on ‘proactive maintenance and improvement works’ in order to save the local authority money in the long-run. According to the council, modelling has shown that this £45m investment could help avoid around £130m in future repair costs over the next ten years, by dealing with problems earlier.
