The Oldham Mountain Rescue Team scrambled to assist an injured walker in Birchin Clough, near Dovestone on Saturday afternoon.
Due to challenging terrain and fading daylight, rescuers were forced to call in a Coastguard helicopter for assistance.
Greater Manchester Police requested the help of the Oldham Mountain rescue Team following a report of an injured walker in Birchin Clough, near Dovestones.
The team quickly mobilised, using their 4x4 vehicles to reach the bottom of the clough before continuing on foot up the rocky path.
One of the team's medics assessed the casualty, and they were found to have sustained an ankle injury. The medic provided pain relief and immobilised the injury with a splint.
While the Humberside Coastguard helicopter was en route, the team carried the casualty on a stretcher up the steep rugged hillside, using a safety rope for support to a suitable extraction point.
They were then transferred by helicopter to Chew Track and handed over to a waiting road ambulance for onward care following the four hour rescue involving 14 members of the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team.
The team currently needs donations to replace their ageing Land Rovers which are vital to getting their team and equipment into places other vehicles simply can’t reach.
