Revving up charity funds

BOOST: The bikers joined by MPs Jonathan Reynolds and Andrew Gwynne celebrate raising thousands for Prostate Cancer UK.

Members of The British Motorcycle Preservation Society (Manchester Branch) have been revving up donations for Prostate Cancer UK.

Treasurer Alan Coates and Secretary Bob Taylor gathered the members together for a special presentation at The Globe Café in Dukinfield.

The event was attended by local MPs Andrew Gwynne and Jonathan Reynolds, who congratulated the group on raising more £2,900.

Bob received treatment himself for prostate cancer, prompting the club to support that particular charity this year.

In the past they have supported other good causes including Francis House, Cancer Research, North West Air Ambulance and SSAFA.

This year the team is planning to support an Alzheimer’s charity with their events and collections.

The group meets at The Sycamore pub near Stamford Park on the first and third Mondays of the month at 8.30pm and all are welcome to attend.

The club has four other branches in the UK which are in Sheffield, Barnsley and Colwyn Bay.

The main ethos of The British Motorcycle Preservation Society is to keep and preserve the old British bikes but you don’t have to have one to get involved.

Sometimes it might fuel a person’s interest to get one of their own but the club offers a great opportunity to meet with bikers and share their passion for the vintage machines.

Another group which has also supported the fundraising is The Nite Owls, a scooter club who meets every other Tuesday at the Sun in Audenshaw and again everyone is welcome to join them too.
