The Vicar of Mossley, Reverend David Warner speaks about the importance of supporting Christian Aid in his latest Reporter column.
This week, with churches of all traditions across the country, we have been supporting Christian Aid week.
In Mossley we usually hold a hugely successful collection at the Co-op, as well as a lot of social events, though obviously this year is different!
Christian Aid is an international charity that supports some of the poorest people in our world - those who lack the basic necessities we so easily take for granted.
Over the past 12 months they’ve also been supporting the response to Covid in some of the world’s poorest countries and the vaccine roll-out for them.
The charity helps all people, regardless of their faith and is a great example of folk working together to bring relief. You can find out more and support them at www.christianaid.org.uk
After the local elections, this is a good time to say thank you to those who offer themselves for public service.
In many ways, such service can be a thankless task, as there’s always more to do, and more that could be done, but the efforts of these people makes life better for us as communities. Not just that, but standing for election is a testing experience in itself - losing is tough, but winning can be challenging too, as promises have to be kept!
This would also be a good time to give a massive ‘shout out’ to Mossley Cancer Committee, whose tireless fundraising has gone on undaunted by pandemic and the struggles of the past year. So, to all who work in whatever way to support others, a massive thank you.
