Residents aged 50+ invited to have their say about living well later in life

Residents in Stalybridge and Dukinfield who are over 50 are being asked what would make their area a better place to live and grow older.

Centred on working in partnership with local communities, Live Well in Later Life (LWILL) is encouraging people to help shape local support services for older people.

The programme builds on the success of Greater Manchester’s Ageing in Place Pathfinder in Ridge Hill which ran from 2022-2025. During this period Jigsaw Support, alongside services including Tameside Council’s Public Health, engaged with over 400 older people in the area.  

People in Dukinfield and Stalybridge over 50 are being asked to answer three questions:

• What’s it like to live in Dukinfield/Stalybridge?
• How could we make it better?
• How can we work together?

The questions will help LWILL understand what matters to them in their area, working together to create age-friendly spaces where everyone can thrive in later life.

Tameside Council’s First Deputy and Executive Member for Population Health and Wellbeing, Cllr Michael Smith said: ‘’When communities are supported and involved, there’s better outcomes for everyone. Ridge Hill has shown us just that by demonstrating how bringing health and support closer to home is vital.

‘’I encourage residents over 50 and in this area to take part and complete the survey so we know exactly what living well in later life looks like for different people.’’

Each of Greater Manchester’s ten local authorities will receive a share of the funding to deliver Live Well in Later Life locally, working with housing providers, health services and voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations.

The programme is part of Greater Manchester’s wider Live Well ambition to ensure everyone has access to great everyday support in their neighbourhood and supports the commitment to being an age-friendly city region, recognised by the World Health Organisation.

LWILL is supported by Tameside Council and delivered by Jigsaw Support. The initiative supports Tameside Council’s plan 2026-2030 to increase engagement with communities and deliver the Live Well vision, bringing everyday support close to where people live.
