Remembering a Mossley charity champion

Dorothy Dawson

A celebration of the life of one of Mossley’s most well-loved residents will take place on Friday (20 January).

Dorothy Dawson passed away just before Christmas aged 100.

She was a member of Mossley Cancer Committee and was an active church member all her life - first at All Saints Church in Micklehurst until 2014 when it closed and then at St George’s in Stalybridge.

Dorothy was born in Denby Street, Mossley, on March 29, 1922.

She married Norman Dawson, who sadly died many years ago.

She had always lived in and around Mossley and was one of the founding members of Mossley Cancer Committee - she even requested donations in lieu of gifts to the charity on her 100th birthday, donating a magnificent £2,575.

St George’s Church in Stalybridge held a special birthday party for her back in March 2022, where parishioners gathered to wish her all the best.

Church warden Val Fallows said: “Our lovely friend Dorothy sadly passed away on Tuesday 20 December at 6.30pm.

“She will be missed by a great number of people. She was loved by everyone, young and old.”

A service to celebrate the life of Dorothy will be held at Mossley Methodist Church on Friday at 1.30pm, all are welcome to attend the service to help give Dorothy the send-off she deserves.

After the service at church people are warmly invited back to Stamford Golf Club to continue to share memories and celebrate her life.
