Andy Burnham has wasted no time in appointing his new cabinet, and two Tameside MPs have been restored to top jobs.
Angela Rayner has been appointed Housing Secretary, while Jonathan Reynolds has been named Business Secretary. The appointments mark a return to senior government roles for both politicians after their departures from the previous administration under Sir Keir Starmer.
Rayner previously served as Deputy Prime Minister and Housing Secretary before resigning from the government in September 2025 following an investigation into an alleged underpayment of property taxes.
Reynolds served as Business and Trade Secretary after Labour entered government in 2024. He left the post during the 2025 reshuffle, when Peter Kyle was appointed to lead the department and Reynolds moved to the role of Government Chief Whip.
