Portland Basin Museum will throw open its doors for a free family-friendly celebration when Our Museum Day returns this week.
The event, being held on Thursday, July 30th, is a chance for visitors of all ages to discover more about the unique museum, its collections, and the stories that have shaped Tameside's rich industrial and social heritage.
On arrival, families can take part in a series of "Our Museum" challenges spread across different activity zones throughout the museum. Visitors will be able to try their hand at print making and badge making, learn traditional dance steps from clog dancers, watch skilled craftspeople at work, and meet characters bringing the museum's famous historic street to life.
Demonstrations by a blacksmith and wheelwright will offer a fascinating glimpse into traditional trades that once played an important role in local communities. Those who complete challenges in each zone will receive a special certificate to mark their achievement.
Portland Basin Museum regularly showcases local history through its recreated Victorian and Edwardian street, industrial collections and community stories, making it a perfect setting for a day of discovery.
With plenty to see, do and explore, Portland Basin's Our Museum Day promises to be an entertaining and educational day out, celebrating one of Tameside's most treasured cultural attractions.
