Pupils at Poplar Street Primary School in Audenshaw enjoy learning in a school that is “happy, safe and welcoming”, according to its latest Ofsted inspection.
The school, which is part of Victorious Academies Trust, was inspected on the 15 and 16 September 2026 and met the expected standard across all areas inspected.
Inspectors recognised the progress made at Poplar Street since its previous inspection and highlighted the positive changes made to the curriculum. The report describes the curriculum as “ambitious and organised carefully” from Nursery through to Year 6, helping pupils to build their knowledge over time.
The report also highlights the positive culture at Poplar Street, where pupils are respectful towards one another, have positive attitudes to learning and feel cared for in a nurturing environment.
Headteacher Helen Fletcher said, “We are delighted that the report reflects the happy, safe and welcoming school we want Poplar Street to be for every child.
"There is so much for us to celebrate, from our ambitious curriculum and the progress we continue to make as a school, to the positive attitudes our pupils show towards their learning and each other.
"I am incredibly proud of our pupils and staff, and I would like to thank our children, staff, families, governors and colleagues across our Trust for their continued support, hard work and commitment. Everyone at Poplar Street plays a part in making our school what it is, and it is wonderful to see so many aspects of school life recognised in the report.”
Beyond the classroom, inspectors recognised the range of experiences and opportunities available to pupils, which help them to develop new interests, take on responsibilities and make a positive contribution to their community.
The report also recognises the care and support available to pupils, including the contribution made by the school’s pastoral team. Children in the early years were found to feel cared for and safe, while inspectors noted that they make a confident start to their education and are typically well prepared for Year 1.
Karen Burns, CEO of Victorious Academies Trust, said, “I am absolutely delighted for Helen and the whole Poplar Street community. This report reflects a school where children are cared for, encouraged to enjoy their learning and given opportunities to grow and develop.
"It is wonderful to see the progress being made at Poplar Street recognised and, most importantly, to see the happy and welcoming experience children have at the heart of the report.
"My congratulations go to everyone at the school. Helen, the staff, pupils, families and governors should all feel incredibly proud.”
The report also highlights the support provided by Victorious Academies Trust and school leaders, with staff valuing the training they receive and the focus on workload and wellbeing, contributing to continued improvements for pupils.
