Police are encouraging people to report any ongoing suspicious activity around vehicles immediately, after yet more catalytic converter thefts recently.
Officers from Greater Manchester Police's Tameside North and East team say they are aware of a spate of thefts of the devices from car exhausts over the past week across Stalybridge and Copley.
They added in a Facebook post: "The theft of catalytic converters can leave victims with a costly repair bill and, in the current climate, an £800 repair bill is something that many just can't afford!
"If you think you may have been in Stalybridge or Copley and witnessed anything suspicious which may relate to the above, please report this information in full confidentiality to GMP."
They have also reminded residents on what they can do to minimise the risk to their vehicle.
- Buy a catalytic converter anti-theft plate, which typically cost £20 to £30
- Park your car so the exhaust is close to a kerb, fence or wall to make access difficult
- Ask your local garage to weld the bolts on your catalytic converter to make it more difficult to remove
