This morning, the Tameside North Neighbourhood Team executed a Section 8 PACE warrant at an address on Broadoak Road, Ashton Hurst.
Inside the property, officers discovered a fully operational cannabis farm containing approximately 100–150 plants, along with a quantity of cultivated cannabis ready for distribution. One male was arrested at the scene and remains in custody for questioning.
Cannabis farms are not only illegal but also pose significant risks to neighbouring homes. They often involve dangerous electrical bypasses, overloaded circuits, and unsafe heating and lighting systems, all of which greatly increase the risk of fire. These hazards can put entire streets at risk without residents ever being aware of the danger next door.
It is also important to recognise that cannabis farms are frequently linked to organised crime groups, who use the profits to fund further criminal activity within our communities. In many cases, these operations are connected to modern slavery, with vulnerable individuals trafficked, exploited, or forced to tend the grows under threat or coercion.
Police say "We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Your information plays a vital role in helping us disrupt organised crime, protect vulnerable people, and keep our communities safe"
If you have concerns about organised crime or modern slavery, you can report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or seek advice through the Modern Slavery Helpline on 08000 121 700.
