The value of residents joining or creating Neighbourhood Watch groups locally has been highlighted by Tameside police as the darker nights close in.
Lee Broadstock, Chief Inspector for Neighbourhoods at Tameside, has stressed the importance of social security during the darker nights and encourages active involvement in Neighbourhood Watch groups.
He said: “We’ve been really proactive in supporting our Neighbourhood Watch, from the police and from our local authority community safety team, and there’s a specialist website called tamesideneighbourhoodwatch.co.uk.
“The site details what existing groups there are, what they do, support they offer and home security advice.”
The relationship between the police and neighbourhood watch is a significant one that benefits communities, he adds.
Chief Insp Broadstock stated: “We can pass on crime trends, crime safety advice and crime safety materials, like window shock alarms, and the neighborhood watch groups get good interactions with our officers and pass that on to the community.”
