Pennies turn to pounds for Tameside charity

A local charity in the heart of Tameside’s community has received a donation from Yorkshire Building Society (YBS) Charitable Foundation.

The Together Centre, which acts as a local community centre in Dukinfield, was recently given a donation totalling £2,500, following the Centre’s nomination by the colleagues of YBS Charitable Foundation’s Ashton-under-Lyne branch.

The Together Centre focuses on tackling loneliness, supporting vulnerable people, providing food assistance, and creating opportunities for residents to connect and participate in community life.

Karen Evans, the Centre Manager at The Together Centre, said that everyone at the centre is “really thankful for the donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation, as it will help us continue to support children and families in our community.”

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the ‘Small Change Big Difference’ scheme, which involves the once-a-year act of members donating the pennies from the interest on their accounts, leading to support given to smaller charities across the UK.

Since 1999, the Foundation has donated more than £10 million to local charities and good causes across the UK, all of which provide urgent support or relief to those experiencing financial hardship, enabling them to address the immediate needs of community members.

Amanda Allwood, branch manager at Yorkshire Building Society in Ashton-under-Lyne, said: “As a branch that serves our local community, we see first-hand the positive impact organisations like The Together Centre have on local people. From providing support for vulnerable residents to creating a welcoming space where people can connect and thrive, the centre plays an important role in improving lives across Dukinfield and beyond. We're pleased to be able to support their work through this donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation and help them continue making a positive difference in our community."
