A dedicated project officer is now in post for the Stalybridge High Street Heritage Action Zone (HAZ) scheme with Historic England.
Phases in the scheme include a replacement roof for Stalybridge Civic Hall (pictured) as well as looking at alternative uses for the 155-year-old former market hall.
A heritage walkway, comprising pavement and road-surface improvements along Market Street, will provide better access from the railway station to a newly-created heritage quarter on Trinity Street in the town centre.
Also included is a grant scheme aimed at improving Market Street properties to establish a conservation standard for shop fronts and interiors.
