In 1993, Girl Guides at Ashton's Albion Church had plenty to cheer about after making a splash in the record books.
It was the first time Guide companies from the same church had finished in first and second place in a district swimming gala.
Albion had been home to the 9th Ashton group for 70 years but had such a long waiting list of girls wanting to join that it was decided to form a second company.
As a result the 18th Ashton came into being with the new unit claiming first place in a closely fought contest at Ashton Pool.
Janet Robson ran both companies.
She told the Reporter at the time: “All the girls swam very well. The atmosphere was terrific and it was great to see them cheering each other on.”
