Young heads bobbed up and down and music filled the air as 80 children danced the night away at a charity disco back in 1981.
Enterprising 11-year-olds Jillian Shaw, Susan Jack, Janine Pace, Jane Washington, Lisa Appleby and Lisa Chapman from St George’s Primary School, Hyde, wanted to do their bit to help a Haitian child the school had adopted through the Tear Fund charity.
They formed a committee and persuaded their class teacher to let them organise the disco with one dad Neville Grieves DJ-ing and ten others acting as ‘bouncers’ to keep away undesirable elements.
Knowing disco dancing could be energetic, the girls drafted in three mums to provide refreshments.
Everyone had a whale of a time while their parents did all the hard work.
The event was a huge success raising £47 for young Beaucejour Pierre Louis Laman.
