A new retail and leisure development is being proposed for the former Audi dealership site on Stockport Road, Gee Cross.
The plans would see the vacant brownfield site brought back into use with a new retail unit and a new gym, alongside car parking with EV charging points, a car wash bay, delivery lockers, and associated landscaping and access works.
The existing building will be retained and refurbished, rather than demolished.
If approved, the development is expected to create around 40 permanent jobs, more than double the number lost when the Audi dealership closed earlier this year. Additional short-term employment and supply chain opportunities will also arise during the construction phase.
The proposed change of use falls under Use Class E(a) for retail and E(d) for fitness/recreation. Planning documents state that the scheme aims to support sustainable development goals - meeting local needs for everyday shopping and exercise, while providing new local jobs.
Dransfield Properties Ltd are behind the proposal, with the planning application being submitted by Planning Prospects Ltd on their behalf under reference 25/00862/FUL.
The former dealership, which closed in March 2025, has remained vacant since. The site sits at the southern edge of Hyde, surrounded by existing housing to the north and east, with new homes proposed to the west and south.
Residents are encouraged to view and comment on the plans during the current consultation period, which runs until 19th November.
