A new purpose-built children’s home is set to be created in Hyde, providing vital support for some of Tameside’s most vulnerable young people.
Named Meadow View, the facility will offer a safe and nurturing environment for cared-for children with disabilities who require either short stay breaks or long-term residential care.
The development will replace an existing children’s home in Dukinfield, ensuring that children and young people benefit from modern, high-quality accommodation specifically designed to meet their needs.
The project is being jointly funded by Tameside Council and the Department for Education (DfE), highlighting a shared commitment to improving local care provision.
Construction will be carried out by John Southworth Builders, with Wilkinson Cowan Partnership acting as Contract Administrator.
Work on the site is expected to begin towards the end of March 2026, with completion scheduled for March 2027. The home is due to open the following month and will provide places for up to nine children and young people across two units.
As the project moves forward, the council has pledged to work closely with children, young people and their families to help shape the internal design of the home. This includes opportunities to contribute to shared spaces such as accessible planted areas and a sensory garden.
Councillor Teresa Smith, Executive Member for Children’s and Families, said: “It’s wonderful that we are able to build a brand-new home for our children and young people and take both you and them on this journey with us as it’s being built.
“Providing a safe, happy and nurturing place they can call home is so important, and this project shows our continued commitment to putting children and families at the heart of everything we do.”
