Local residents are being invited to celebrate Tameside’s diverse cultures as part of National Hate Crime Awareness Week this month.
Tameside Council Community Safety Team have collaborated with Tameside Health Group (ACM) to bring the Sharing Cultures event together at Community Hall, Ashton Central Mosque, Hillgate Street, Ashton-under-Lyne on Saturday, October 17, from 1-5pm.
The day will feature community organisations from different cultures, holding stalls demonstrating their culture and crafts, giving residents an opportunity to learn more about one another.
The event, which marks National Hate Crime Awareness Week October 10-17, 2026, is open to residents of all ages and will include free craft activities, face painting and refreshments. There will also be dance performances from the Ukrainian community at 3pm.
Tameside Council Executive Member for Towns Transport and Connectivity, Cllr Stephen Homer, said: “We’re really excited for this year’s Sharing Cultures event.
"Last year’s event was a great success and everyone who attended found it valuable and really enjoyed the day. It’s a fantastic opportunity to bring together people from a wide range of backgrounds and celebrate the rich diversity within Tameside while also promoting understanding, inclusion, and harmony.”
