Mossley to Marrakech: Two idiots, Two Wheels, and a 3,500-Mile Journey

In 2023, two self-proclaimed ‘idiots on bike adventures’ Callum Fletcher (31) and Adam Jackson (30), set off from the small town of Mossley in Greater Manchester on a journey that would test their endurance, redefine their friendship, and take them across continents all from the saddles of their bicycles.

Now, nearly two years later, the duo has launched an indie docu-series titled Manchester to Marrakech, sharing their 3,500-mile, five-month odyssey with the world via their YouTube channel Too Far Gone. The first episode, released in March 2025, has already gained over 55,000 views.

The YouTube channel showcases all the adventures of the Too Far Gone team, originally led by the self-proclaimed "two idiots," Marlon Bethell and Adam Jackson. It appears Marlon has since been temporarily replaced by Callum. But fear not, he’ll be back in their next adventure - Pisa to Bratislava (catchy title pending).

The route was nothing short of thrilling, Mossley to Dover, a ferry to Dunkirk, and then through Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, southern France, the Pyrenees, across Spain, and a ferry from Algeria to Tangier in Morocco - all the way to their final stop in Marrakech. Their return to Manchester in February 2023 marked the end of an unforgettable chapter.

A Journey Built on Grit, Laughter, and a £100 Bike.

Fletcher’s bicycle that made it to Marrakech - a £100 Facebook Marketplace find - embodied the adventure’s spirit. In a twist that seemed scripted for film, it was stolen within the first two weeks of returning to Manchester. Rescued, repaired, and ridden all the way to North Africa and back, the bike became something of a fallen folk hero in their story.

Adam describes the ordeal: “The most beautiful ending that you could have. So much pain, joy and mechanical learning from that bike,” Adam reflects in the series.

Callum adds, “It lived a life far beyond anything it deserved.”

Jackson and Fletcher are now ready to share their travels with the world two years on.

“It’s been burning in the back of my head for ages,” says Adam. “Mildly stressing me out for two years. Maybe because I don’t feel like the same fella that did the bike tour. It’s nice reviewing the footage and being like—we went through some horrible and amazing things. We had the biggest ups and the biggest downs you could possibly get.”

The process of documenting and editing their journey has given them time to reflect and reconnect with a past version of themselves. It’s also a celebration of their shared philosophy: staying oddly optimistic even when things go wildly off track.

“A big top tip even, don’t bother taking pictures on holiday,” Adam jokes. “Thoroughly film the whole thing, document it, wait two years, and edit it together. You get to fully re-live it.”

Though the ride was a globe-spanning feat, its roots were firmly planted in Mossley.

“The simple answer [to why we started cycling from Mossley] is that we live here,” says Adam. “The more abstract answer: we live here out of choice because it's the best place to live in the UK. You miss the roots, the people, the places, the connections you have. That's really the foundation of everything.”

Episodes of Manchester to Marrakech Bike Tour are released every two weeks on Wednesdays via the Too Far Gone YouTube channel. It’s not just a travel documentary—it’s a raw, funny, and sometimes painful look at adventure, friendship, and finding meaning in the miles.

Whether you're a cyclist, an armchair traveler, or just someone in need of inspiration, this is one journey worth following.
