Mossley Hollins raises money in remembrance

The Mossley high school has held a Macmillan coffee morning again this year, remembering those with links to Hollins who have passed away.

Friday 29th September is the national day for Macmillan coffee mornings in which many people across the country get together to organize a charity fundraiser to help raise funds for fighting cancer.

At Mossley Hollins high school, head girl Madeline Crosby and head boy Dean Bottomley were on hand alongside the prefect team to sell cakes and to raise money for the important cause. The school has held the event in years previous, raising over £700 in past years.

The fundraiser is one that is especially poignant for the school, as it serves as a way to remember previous Hollins members that sadly passed away. Andrea Din, head of the school, said “a couple of years ago we had a student of ours pass away. It was the first time ever a student still studying had passed away. Shortly after we also had a member of staff that passed from cancer. She dedicated her whole life to this school and was here before the new building.”

A large selection of cakes, biscuits and assorted brownies were on offer for fellow pupils to purchase at breaktime and a further bake sale was held later in the day after school, giving parents the opportunity to donate as well.

“The cakes and everything are from a range of different places,” Andrea said, “parents, carers, children and the food technology pupils provide us with some as well. It is a real team effort and every penny helps when supporting.”
