MCR Dance Academy's dancers qualify for Florida

MCR Dance Academy, a not for-profit community hub based in Ashton, recently qualified for the prestigious All Star World Championship in Florida to represent England.

With the mission of making health and fitness accessible for everyone in the community, the organisation focuses on
promoting dance and helping young people achieve their full potential.

The talented dancers from the Tameside area have been training hard for months preparing for the championship. They are eager to represent
their community on the global stage.

However, the team needs sponsorship to cover the cost of travel, accommodation, and
entry fees, which are quite significant.

Miah Maddock-Hodgins, from the academy, is appealing to local businesses and individuals to support their efforts.“We’re proud to have recently qualified for the All Star World Championships in Florida, where we’ll represent England in 2024. “Our team comprises of talented dancers between the ages of 14 and 21, some of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“We’re fundraising to cover the expenses associated with this exciting event and would be grateful for any support,” she said.

The hip-hop dance group, including individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences, has set up an online fundraising page. Miah added: “We have an amazing group of dancers who have worked so hard to qualify for the World Championships, and we don’t want money to be the thing that stops us from competing. “We’re asking for any support people can give, whether a small donation or a larger sponsorship. Every little bit helps.”

MCR Dance Academy was opened by Mia on her 19th birthday in July 2022.

One of the youngest head coaches in England, she has been training from the age of three. The former gymnast has won two gold and one silver medal at the ICU Cheer and Dance World Championships. Mia is joined at the MCR Dance Academy by her mum Caroline Maddock-Hodgins, a qualified English teacher and dad, Richard Hodgins, a senior mental health practitioner with the NHS.
