The mayors for Oldham and Tameside councils have joined forces in their bid to raise funds for their chosen charities.
Oldham’s Mayor, Cllr Elaine Garry, and Tameside’s Mayor, Cllr Mike Glover, will be hosting a joint fundraiser at Lily's restaurant in Ashton town centre from 7.30pm on Friday 15 July.
It will begin with a canape reception, followed by an Indian buffet.
Every year, both councils elect a mayor from amongst the elected councillors and they nominate local charities which they then dedicate their year to promoting and fundraising for.
This year, however, Cllr Glover and Cllr Garry have taken the unusual step of working together to raise money for their adopted causes.
Cllr Glover said: “I have known and worked with Elaine for years so, when we both were elected as Mayors, we saw it as a great opportunity to work together to raise much needed funds for local charities that are important to us.”
Cllr Garry added: “I am really looking forward to this event. Lily's is renowned for its quality Indian food with people travelling for miles to eat there and it is great to be hosting it with Mike. It promises to be a memorable evening.”
The Tameside Mayoral charities this year are:
- Greater Manchester Asbestos Victims Support Group (GMAVSG)
- The Christie Charity
- Smallshaw Tenants and Residents Association (STAR)
- The Anthony Seddon Fund
Oldham's are:
- North West Air Ambulance
- Broughton House Veteran Care Village
- Pennine Pen Animal Rescue
- Oldham Cancer Support Centre
- Oldham Young Carers service
- Oldham Bereavement Support
- The Oldham Band (Lees)
