Students from Clarendon Sixth Form College will launch a new exhibition this weekend based on objects at the Portland Basin Museum.
‘Inspired By’ stemmed from a tour of the museum taken by the pupils, with their artwork taking cues from Portland Basin’s 1920s street, chain mail from the medieval display and a dress worn in the 1930s by Frances Lockett, a local Cotton Queen.
Cllr Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s lead for Lifelong Learning and Culture, said: “I can fully understand how the Clarendon students were inspired by our award-winning museum at Portland Basin.
“It features a wealth of artefacts covering Tameside’s history from pre-Roman times to the present day.
“But in addition to that, they have converted that inspiration into a wide and diverse range of stunning artwork which I’m sure will inspire visitors over the coming weeks.
“‘Inspired By’ is well worth a visit and I am sure it will prove to be a very popular exhibition.”
Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Betty Affleck, will open the show at Portland Basin on Saturday March 1 from 11am.
Admission is free and is open 10am-4pm every day apart from Mondays.
