Man dies after incident on M60 near Ashton

A man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene of a police incident on the M60 at Junction 23 yesterday, October 2.

Officers were called to the scene around 4:30pm following concerns over the welfare of a man. They have confirmed that his death is not believed to be suspicious.

Police closed off the scene with the M60 closed in both directions, with diversions in place on the exit and entry slip roads to the motorway.

The North West Air Ambulance landed near the scene, not far from the Evans Halshaw Ford garage on Manchester Road.

Jonathan Reynolds MP said: "This is devastating news - my heart goes out to his friends and family.

"We have tragically lost too many precious lives this way in recent years and I will be appealing to Highways England to increase the heights of the barriers - action is needed, along with a proper national strategy for mental health provision.

"Everyone hits dark days sometimes, and whilst I believe the heightening of certain bridges is a priority, I will always continue to fight for increased mental health service provision."
