A 37-year-old man has been charged with a string of thefts - including from an elderly woman at Crownpoint Retail Park in Denton.
The incident happened on 12 November, when her black and brown handbag - which contained a wedding ring, phone, purse, car key, bus pass and driving licence - was snatched from her.
It prompted Greater Manchester Police to launch a widespread appeal for information to identify a male suspect.
The man was arrested on 10 December.
Martin Stokes, from the Bury area, was subsequently charged with numerous crimes including four counts of theft, one count of fraud and possession of a controlled drug when arrested.
Stokes is remanded in custody and due in court on Monday (12 December).
GMP Tameside's North and East team said: "This was a collective effect made by members of the public and officers from Tameside, Bolton, Stockport and Trafford division."
