Nurseries in Tameside are celebrating achieving a new Communication Friendly Setting Accreditation following a two-year development programme.
Tameside Council has facilitated The Early Years Professional Development Programme alongside local nurseries as part of a national Department for Education initiative to support and enhance communication and language outcomes for children aged 2-4 years.
The emphasis of the programme is to improve school readiness for pupils by raising outcomes for children’s early language, literacy and mathematics within Tameside.
Five local nurseries who have achieved the accreditation will celebrate this week in a series of awards events.
Councillor Leanne Feeley, Executive Member for Education, Achievement and Equalities, said: “This is a fantastic achievement that demonstrates our commitment to improving communication and language outcomes for children in the borough by developing support in early years.
“Nurseries have worked closely with Tameside Council Early Years Quality Officers from the Early Years Quality Improvement team to ensure that the appropriate levels of support and advice have been offered at each stage of the programme.
“I look forward to seeing the nursery settings continuing to develop and I thank the drive and dedication of the nursery staff who have committed to delivering the programme despite the challenges of the pandemic”.
The nurseries that achieved that award are The Sunflower Children’s Centre, Marvels Kids Club, Little Pandas Preschool, Quadrant House and Happy Hedgehogs Preschool.
