A new children’s picture book celebrating Manchester’s famously rainy reputation has been published by local author Lainee Perez from Hattersley.
'The Day Manchester Ran Out of Rain', published by LP Books Mcr, is an imaginative and heartwarming story aimed at children under the age of six. Beautifully illustrated by Sinem Kiliç Rabito, the book takes young readers on a whimsical journey through a city that suddenly finds itself without its most familiar feature... the rain.
The story follows Betsy, a young girl who notices that Manchester’s endless downpours have mysteriously stopped. As she explores the city, she encounters protected puddles, worried bees, stalled trams and hopeful umbrella holders all wondering when the rain will return.
Described as a love letter to Manchester, the book celebrates the character, warmth, and resilience of the city, while encouraging children to find joy in the everyday details that make a place feel like home.
Author Lainee Perez has called Manchester home for more than 20 years, and said she wanted to create a story that captures the unique spirit of Manchester and its people. She hopes the book will remind readers of all ages that a little imagination can brighten even the greyest of days.
