Tameside Council is bidding for further funding from the next round of the national Levelling Up Programme to bring more investment to Stalybridge.
The Council's Cabinet has agreed to resubmit an application with the bidding process due to be announced this spring.
It will appoint a multi-disciplinary team to support the bid, produce a development prospectus and will undertake public consultations on a masterplan being developed for Stalybridge.
Feedback from a previous bid to the Levelling Up Fund suggested that this further work would enhance its prospects of success with the council awarded Government funding to support the Round 2 bid.
The council says it has identified several large, vacant and underused sites that could be developed for housing on brownfield land, car parking, and new public realm that will enhance connectivity across the town centre.
Councillor Oliver Ryan, Executive Member for Finance and Economic Growth, said: “A huge amount of work is already producing success in Stalybridge with the start of the Town of Culture programme of events and the popular Stalybridge Street Fest, and funding secured to regenerate the town centre.
“Our bid for the next round of Levelling Up funding shows we are committed to securing even more funding for Stalybridge and development of the town centre.”
