People who look after someone in Tameside are being invited to learn about their rights, get practical advice, and connect with a range of local services and organisations at a special event later this month.

Every day, around 12,000 people in the UK become unpaid carers for a partner, family member or friend, according to Carers UK. Many of them don’t see themselves as carers and are often unaware of the legal rights, support, and benefits available to them.

To help raise awareness and ensure carers get the support they deserve, Tameside Carers Centre is hosting an event on Carers Rights Day, Thursday 20 November, from 10am to 12noon.

Visitors will be able to learn more about the help and advice available locally, with representatives from a wide range of organisations on hand, including:

  • Epseminars (free legal advice)
  • Tameside Adult Safeguarding Board
  • Community Response Service (telecare)
  • Tameside Welfare Rights (benefits information)
  • Age UK
  • Scope (energy advice and winter support)
  • Groundwork
  • Alzheimer’s Society
  • Stroke Association
  • Anthony Seddon Mental Health Support
  • Being There (life-limiting illness support)
  • Talking Therapies
  • Message in a Bottle

Councillor John Taylor, Executive Member for Adult Social Care, said: “Knowing your rights as a carer is so important. Come along and find out about the support you’re entitled to. Our friendly team are here to help you access the services that can make a real difference.”

The event will take place at The People Place, Tameside One, Market Place, Ashton-under-Lyne, OL6 6BH.

Carers can also connect with the service on Facebook for regular updates and news.
