Two tiny kittens have been rescued after being found abandoned inside a plastic bag in the heatwave.
Two women in Denton stumbled across the kittens in a field off Mansfield Avenue at around 10pm on Monday.
One of the kittens had managed to get out of the blue plastic carrier bag and his cries alerted the women, Terri Clarke and Kathryn Whewell.
When they went over to the bag they found a ginger kitten, while another black kitten was still inside the bag.
The women took the tiny cats, aged around four weeks old, to Amy Lee in Denton, who is a member of Rescue Kitties (UK).
Amy and the women returned to the spot and looked to see if they could find any more kittens and played mum cat calls, but no others were located.
Amy said: “I took them into Rescue Kitties and they are being fostered by Janine Clare, one of our fosterers, as they aren’t eating solids yet and need to be support-fed due to their age.
“In this heat I don’t know how they survived. I also don’t know why in this day and age it’s necessary to dump kittens. Any rescue would take them in. It’s heartless, it’s cruel and to die inside a plastic bag in 30 degree heat would be excruciating.
“There's literally hundreds of really good rescues in Manchester and any one of them would have taken in the babies, no questions asked, us included, we would have also helped neuter mum for them.”
Rescue Kitties is a Manchester-based rescue and they take in and re-home approximately 750 cats and kittens a year. They concentrate on abandoned and injured cats who need help the most. They consist of a group of 40-plus volunteers.
