An industry expert and social media star has visited media makeup students at Tameside College to give a masterclass.
Samantha Helen, whose lifelike Halloween themed makeup designs have garnered her a huge social media following, visited students to demonstrate a range of techniques and skills.
Alongside her work on social media, Samantha has collaborated with celebrity, Kevin Hart, and brands such as Rolls Royce, Pretty Little Thing, Superdrug and Nokia to create makeup designs for advertisements and events.
Students took part in a two-hour workshop with Samantha, learning to create a sea monster design using various effects and textures with brushes, stencils and glow in the dark paint. The students taking part in the workshop will now use the skills they have learnt to complete their next assessment.
Erin Louth, media makeup student at Tameside College, said: “I really enjoyed the workshop with Samantha exploring face and body art. She talked about different brush techniques, how to add something extra using paper as gills and using neon orange paint which glows under UV light.
"She also shared her thoughts on how we could use what she had shown us to create our own body art designs. It was a great experience.”
Kim Barrow, media makeup teacher at Tameside College, said: “I am very grateful to Samantha for visiting my students to demonstrate some really skilled and useful techniques. The students really enjoyed seeing her work in person and were inspired by what she has achieved.
"Industry expertise can shape new ideas and help or even expand dreams. It was also a reminder that even successful people have had to learn, grow and develop themselves.”
