Last year's local elections in Tameside threw up some of the closest ever results in some wards.
Tameside’s Tories enjoyed an increase in the share of their vote - mirrored across the north and nationally, but by the end of the night they won through only in Ashton Hurst.
There the seat of former Labour Mayor Leigh Drennan fell to Conservative Dan Costello.
However, Dukinfield/Stalybridge, Hyde Godley and Audenshaw yielded tantalising close results.
Three recounts were needed for the Dukinfield/Stalybridge ward where Labour’s Leanne Feeley crossed the line by just 13 votes.
In Hyde Godley - where once again the controversial Godley Green Garden Village plan will inevitably be the topic of hot debate - was retained by Labour’s Joe Kitchen by just 52 votes.
In Audenshaw, councillor Teresa Smith retained her seat for Labour by just 82 votes.
The Tameside Reporter will once again be offering all of this year’s candidates the opportunity to submit a profile about themselves explaining why the electorate should vote for them with an accompanying picture.
Profiles can be submitted direct to editor Nigel Skinner via email: nigel.skinner@questmedianetwork.co.uk
