Nine international adult nursing students from Hong Kong visited Tameside Hospital recently to see for themselves how a busy UK hospital functions, and the challenges it faces.
The students, supported by Manchester Metropolitan University, chatted to staff and visited A&E and other key facilities, and shared information and experiences with their Tameside counterparts.
Karen James OBE, Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS FT who welcomed the visitors said afterwards: “ We learned that there are just over 59,000 nurses in Hong Kong, but like many cities across the world, it is facing a growing nursing shortage crisis.
"We were impressed to learn that nursing training in Hong Kong takes place over a period of five years, and it was amazing to hear some of the differences between the UK and Hong Kong systems. The students will be in the UK for a short time before they head home, and we hope to see them back again soon.”
