GTB back on form with 2nd-place supertri finish

Droylsden triathlete Georgia Taylor-Brown followed up her bronze medal from the mixed relay at the Paris Olympics with a second-place finish at the first supertri Super League fixture in Boston.

The race - which differs from a regular triathlon in that the swimming, cycling and running are repeated in three shorter bursts – went to the wire, with GTB being overhauled in the final 800 metres by Luxembourg’s Jeanne Lehair.

Representing Crown Racing, Taylor-Brown hit the front during the first 4km bike circuit and stayed at the front of the pack until the second 1.6km run.

After the final swim, she was in the hunt for the podium places with Taylor Spivey, Kate Waugh and Lehair, with Olympic champion Cassandre Beaugrand out of contention 41 seconds behind.

“The first is always the worst,” said GTB on Instagram after the event. “But I dragged myself around to finish up 2nd and you know what, I had a lot of fun, albeit my lungs and legs telling me differently.

“Crown racing are sitting in 2nd after round one! 4 rounds to go to take back that title.”

Alex Yee continued his Olympic gold medal form by claiming the men’s event ahead of Seth Rider and Tim Hellwig, although he faced criticism for his celebration after crossing the line with his arms folded.

The next supertri Super League event takes place this Sunday in Chicago, with future legs in London, Toulouse and at NEOM in Saudi Arabia.
