Tameside Armed Services Community (TASC) has received more than £1,500 of funding to provide solar electricity for its Veterans' Allotment in Denton.
The donation has come from the Manchester Airport’s Community Trust Fund.
The Fund, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this December, has made donations worth more than £3.5m to community-led projects in that time and the latest 19 beneficiaries were decided at its latest quarterly meeting.
These covered the breadth of the Trust Fund’s catchment, including organisations in Manchester, Trafford, Stockport and Cheshire as well as Tameside - and the veteran’s project.
TASC’s Frank Travis said: “We are very grateful to the Community Trust Fund for its support. This new, clean electricity supply will allow us to stay open for longer and make better use of equipment on site. That will include us being able to invite the wider community into a more flexible and welcoming space.
“The allotment is a project developed by TASC to bring together service veterans with a shared interest and fosters a sense of community. It also has close links with the Veterans’ Kitchen initiative, which employs veterans who provide meals to those in need.”
