Friends of the Tame Valley held another successful litter pick on Sunday, with group Secretary Andrew Gwynne MP saying he was 'stunned' at how much rubbish the group managed to clear.
FoTV, which was formed back in 2020, is a community group which seeks to protect and enhance the environment of the Tame Valley. The group holds regular clean-up days, and also raises money for valley improvements like signage and footpath repairs.
Sunday's event was organised by FoTV committee member Stephen Martin and took place at the Upper Haughton and Whittles Meadows. The group removed debris in the stream ranging from shopping trolleys to a composter.
Stephen said: "A big thank you for the efforts of the volunteers in the Upper Haughton and Whittles Meadows on Sunday morning.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Volunteers who have given their time throughout this year on this section of our Valley.
"I'm looking forward to the Spring when all the efforts of this year will be rewarded with an abundance of native flowers."
Andrew Gwynne MP said: "Friends of the Tame Valley volunteers did such an amazing job of cleaning-up the Upper Haughton and Whittles Meadows. They managed to clear three shopping trolleys, two tyres, a composter and 8 bags of litter. I was stunned by how much we cleared.
"While it's frustrating that this litter was left in our beautiful valley, it's really inspiring to see local people stepping up to protect our wonderful green spaces.
"Thanks to Steve for organising, and to Chris, Lotty, Graham, John, Allison and Lyle for giving a helping hand!
"If you're inspired too, why not join us on our next volunteer day!"
The next Friends of the Tame Valley clear-up will take place this Friday (14 October) as part of Suez UK's volunteer day. All are welcome, and those who wish to take part can do so by meeting Dunkirk Lane Car Park, Jet Amber Fields at 10am (SatNav: SK14 4PL).
