Friends of the Tame Valley, the residents' group looking after the Valley and surrounding areas, have held a successful community day.
The volunteer group teamed up with Greenspace in what Andrew Gwynne, Denton and Reddish MP, called a "mammoth effort to spruce up the Valley".
Over the course of last Friday morning, volunteers collected litter and fly-tipping, removed dead trees to open up views of the river and prepared a new wildflower meadow.
It is hoped that come March, volunteers can team-up with local pupils at Linden Road School for sowing in the new meadow.
Friends of the Tame Valley were formed in 2021 with the help of Gwynne, who serves as FoTV secretary.
Membership has grown since the group's inception, and areas of the Valley have been totally transformed thanks to the hard work of volunteers.
Commenting, Andrew Gwynne said: "I'd like to say a huge thank you to Friends of the Tame Valley and Greenspace for this mammoth effort to spruce up the Valley.
''This is community spirit in action, and means that our valley will look even more beautiful come spring-time.
''If you want to get involved with FoTV, please get in touch! We're always looking for new volunteers to join this incredible group."
FoTV Committee Member Steve Martin, who organised the event, added: "I would like to thank Chris from Friends of the Tame Valley as well as Dan from Greenspace and his volunteers for helping to prepare two areas of the Valley - which we cleared of Himalayan Balsam last summer - for the sowing of native wild flowers near the local school in the Spring".
Friends of the Tame Valley will be holding their next Annual General Meeting on 21 February at 7:15pm via Zoom. For joining details, email ajgwynne@sky.com
