Free family fun at ‘Happenin in Hyde’ event

Street theatre, walkabout performances, face painting and arts and crafts are all part of the exciting programme for Hyde's family fun day.

Hyde town centre will come alive with entertainment, creativity and family fun as 'Happenin in Hyde' brings a packed programme of free activities and performances to the town.

Tameside Council is inviting residents of all ages to join the celebrations on Saturday 26 September, from 10.30am to 4.30pm, at Hyde Outdoor Market and Clarendon Square.

Some of the entertaining facilitators and performances include:

  • Join Wilfred and his mate Napoleon the Chicken in ‘SEED’ as they scrape, dig, blast and rain their way to plant the very last acorn before the slippery slugs can get to them
  • Help a heavily burdened postman in ‘Special Delivery’ deliver his packages after an unexpected rain shower peels off all the labels!
  • Do a ‘Waggle Dance’ with a colony of bees as they try to adapt to life outside the hive
  • Get crafty with Tameside’s own magical travelling emporium ‘Phantasmagoria’
  • Run away to the circus with ‘Short Scruff’s Theatre’ as they teach circus skills and perform their laugh-out-loud puppet extravaganza ‘The Jump’
  • Then enjoy fantastic free face painting with ‘Vix Face Painting’
  • Listen to magical music from brilliant Northwest musicians ‘Kayleigh Hall’ and ‘Silver Train Duo’

Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, Cllr Leanne Feeley said: “We're really excited to welcome residents and visitors to Hyde for a fantastic day of free entertainment, creativity and family fun. With incredible performers, facilitators and plenty of activities to enjoy, there's something for everyone. It's set to be a brilliant day out, and we can't wait to see the town centre busy with fun and laughter! Spread the word and come join us."
