Free biccies, brews and bursts of creativity at The Vale through Feb and March

A Tameside arts centre is offering a warm welcome on Wednesday afternoons, with free drop in creative activities and brews and biscuits on offer.

Throughout February and March 2026, Wednesday Welcome will run from 1-3pm at The Vale in Mossley.

The weekly sessions provide a warm space to gather during the coldest months of the year and the chance to take part in free artist-led workshops, with no previous experience or skill needed. The 12 week programme is funded by a Community Winter Support grant from Tameside MBC.

The next six sessions will be led by Mossley artist Lizzie Rigby, who will be helping to create a collective piece of art that celebrates diversity and inclusion. Participants will use recycled materials to learn applique and embroidery techniques.

The completed artwork will be displayed in George Lawton Hall in Mossley as well as a local library. Its creation has been partly funded by a Too Great for Hate community grant from Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and Tameside MBC.
Last month, Wednesday Welcome attendees learned willow weaving with Mossley's Jayne McLean Kremer of Good Earth Community.

The last session runs on Wednesday 1 April 2026.

Jane Harris, community engagement lead, The Vale, said:  We offer a friendly and welcoming environment which means the sessions are creatively satisfying and really good for wellbeing.

"We'd encourage anyone who is interested to come along and enjoy the facilities at The Vale."
