Former footballer Mark Crossley will bring tales from his career to Droylsden this November. He'll be supported by comedian John Gillian, as both head up a fundraising afternoon.
Droylsden Cricket Club is inviting the local community to an afternoon of football nostalgia, comedy, and fundraising when it hosts 'An Afternoon with Mark Crossley' on Sunday, 22 November, 2026.
The event will see the former professional goalkeeper share stories from a career spanning more than two decades, with comedian John Gillian adding to the entertainment. The programme will also include an auction of sports memorabilia and a raffle, with pie and peas included in the ticket price.
Organised as a community fundraiser for the cricket club, the afternoon is open to families, sports clubs, local businesses, and anyone else looking to enjoy a social occasion while supporting grassroots sport.
Crossley is best known for his long association with Nottingham Forest, where he made more than 300 league appearances and played under legendary manager Brian Clough. He also represented a number of other English clubs, including Middlesbrough, Fulham, Oldham Athletic, and Chesterfield, as well as earning international caps for Wales.
Comedy will come from John Gillian, an experienced after-dinner performer whose act combines topical stories, quick-fire one-liners, and audience interaction. His credits include working alongside established comedy names such as Jimmy Cricket and Al Murray.
Alongside the entertainment, the event will offer attendees the chance to bid on sports memorabilia and take part in a raffle, with the proceeds helping support the cricket club and its community activities.
Doors open at 12.30pm, with the main event starting at 2pm and the afternoon/evening scheduled to finish at 8pm.
Tickets cost £40-per-person, with early-bird tickets available for £35 while stocks last. Tables of 10 are also available, making the event an option for groups of friends, colleagues, sports teams, and local businesses.
The event will take place at Droylsden Cricket Club, Garden Fold Way, Droylsden, M43 7XU.
