A family are organising a heartfelt fundraiser in loving memory of tragic teenager Mark Allen.
Last month marked the fifth anniversary of Mark’s death.
He was just 18 when he drowned after jumping into Debdale Reservoir in Gorton to cool off in hot weather. But the water in the reservoir was incredibly cold and he soon got into difficulty. Despite the best efforts of his friends, he could not be saved.
Mark was a former student at Wright Robinson College and as a drama student had hoped to become an actor.
Now his family are organising a Droylsden fundraiser to raise money for the RNLI.
Entitled ‘Music for Mark’ the night of music and memories will be held at Droylsden Football Club and feature live bands, a DJ, food and more.
Taking place on Friday, July 28, at 7pm, tickets cost just £5 for over 13s, £2 for two to 12 year-olds with under twos free.
Mark’s older sister Kelly said: “Honouring the memory of our beloved Mark, we are hosting the charity event to raise funds for the RNLI, a charity that is close to our hearts.
“All profits raised from the night after all costs of running the event are covered will be donated to the RNLI in Blackpool.
“It is five years since we lost Mark in a water related accident. He was only 18 and his memory lives on in all of us.”
Kelly added: “I’d love to be able to sum Mark up in words to give you an insight into him as a person and the impact he had on all those who were lucky enough to meet him; but to put it simply there are no words that could explain just how loved he was and is.
“Everybody who had the pleasure of meeting Mark would tell you that his energy and smile would brighten even the darkest of days: he always found a way to make you smile or even make you laugh.
“He liked to make a difference and through us all, he still can! We invite you to join us in for an evening of music, fun and fundraising in support of the RNLI.
“We have an exciting line up with live bands, a DJ, delicious food and more.”
Kelly said they hope to raise £5,000 for the RNLI.
“With everyone’s generous support, we hope to raise a significant amount of money for the RNLI in memory of Mark.
“Let us come together to celebrate Mark’s life and support a charity that works tirelessly to keep our coastlines and the people who enjoy them safe.”
Tickets are available through a just giving page which you can find at https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/musicformark
Just let Kelly know how many people are attending so that catering can be organised for the evening.
If you are not able to attend then you can still give a donation on the page.
Kelly added: “Please book your ticket and donate today and help us make a difference in honour of our Marky.”
