Eco Streets project continues to transform neighbourhoods

Residents were invited to a series of pop‑up activities to share their ideas and help shape the designs, which improved and developed an alleyway in Ashton‑under‑Lyne.

Tameside Council Community Safety collaborated with Groundwork Greater Manchester to engage with the residents and continue the Eco Streets project. Together, they helped design plans to transform a neglected alleyway into a welcoming community space where residents can enjoy and children can play.

There was ongoing consultation with residents, along with practical educational sessions such as potting and planting seeds, as well as creative craft activities, including designing mosaic back‑door number tiles and painting a community mural.

Last Friday 10th April, there was a celebration event to commemorate all the fantastic transformational work completed with the residents on Whiteacre Road.

The project aims to foster residents’ appreciation and pride for their street and surrounding areas and encourage them to maintain the improvements.

Tameside Council Assistant Director of Environment Housing & Estates, Emma Varnam said: “It is absolutely amazing to see the transformations taking place in Tameside. Through the Eco Streets project, we’re working closely with residents to understand the concerns and challenges that affect their neighbourhoods and to tackle these issues together. This collaboration is helping create cleaner, greener, and more welcoming streets for everyone.”
