Dukinfield biker completes 1,000-mile charity motorbike ride

A Dukinfield-based motorcyclist has successfully completed his gruelling 1,000-mile charity endurance ride in support of Francis House Children's Hospice.

Mark Towler set out on his ambitious challenge on August 1st, 2026, aiming to ride 1,000 miles in 24 hours to raise money for the Manchester-based hospice, which provides care and support for children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families.

After riding through the night, Mark completed the challenge in just 18-and-a-half hours, covering a total distance of 1,038 miles to arrive back at Jack's Bar in Hyde.

Sharing the news after crossing the finish line, Mark described the overnight section as one of the toughest parts of the journey.

In an email, Mark said: "I made it. Eighteen-and-a-half hours, gruelling weather, a very sore backside, and exactly 1,038 miles later, the endurance ride for Francis House Children's Hospice is officially complete.

"Pushing through the night is still one of the hardest things of the ride, but knowing I had all of you backing me kept my wheels turning."

The challenge has so far raised £1,067 for Francis House, with donations continuing to come in. The JustGiving fundraising page will remain open for a further two weeks as supporters are encouraged to help boost the final total.

Mark thanked everyone who had supported the challenge, adding: "Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the donations, messages and support. We did it."

The fundraising effort, which we previously covered ahead of the ride, aims to support the vital work carried out by Francis House in Didsbury, which supports children with life-shortening conditions.
