A Droylsden school will soon be launching its own sixth form.
This September, Laurus Ryecroft will be opening its doors to the first cohort of A Level students.
The new education establishment will be the only sixth form in a state comprehensive 11-18 school in Tameside.
Stephanie Bridge, Director of Sixth Form and Assistant Head of School, said: “We believe it is important that students have the option of continuing their studies in a smaller, academic environment.
“Our sixth form will offer this provision for students who have aspirations to access the most competitive courses at university or go onto degree apprenticeships with prestigious employers.
“We have uncompromising standards and expectations, but, in return, students will be provided with a highly bespoke level of academic support to guide them onto the future pathway of their choice.”
Laurus Ryecroft is currently a secondary free school run by the Laurus Trust which opened in September 2018.
The school will have a sixth form of 300 students.
In its new admission policy, the school has outlined that the A Level courses it offers and the entry criteria ‘reflect their vision’, which is for everyone, regardless of background or circumstance, to be inspired, to thrive in all environments, to recognise what it takes to succeed, to set aspirational goals and work hard to achieve them.
A minimum of six GCSEs at grade 6, including maths and English language, are required for entry.
Students will also be expected to wear business dress at all times - this will include a skirt or tailored trousers, a smart shirt or blouse and a suitable form of footwear.
