The Denton youngster who sold out her first two novels from her “Fairy Family” series, has now earned herself a blue peter badge due to her admirable charitable work.
Eight year old Julia Bugno and her mother Anna Bugno co-created a series of books to raise money for children in Ukraine. Her mother illustrated the books as Julia wrote them, raising more than £200for Children from Slovyansk in Ukraine to support the Charitable Foundation from Ukraine called Slovyanka Mriia (Slavic Dream) which Sunflower Manchester is supporting.
On winning the iconic blue peter badge, Julia expressed her gratitude, “I was so happy to receive Blue Peter badges that you can’t even imagine. I was even more happy to get the silver one because it meant I did something really good for someone else. “
Not only has Julia raised a substantial amount of money and earnt a blue peter badge, but they have also donated pencil cases for 60 children from Slovyansk worth £210 pounds and also some spare teddy bears. thought raising money and donating
Julia added, “I think pencil cases and teddies are important because these children have lost everything in the war and I want to help people especially those who suffer and make them forget about the war. Children in Slovyans are homeschooled as they are sheltering all the time so from the sale of my next book I would like to raise money for children to buy power banks, iPads etc for Homeschooling.”
The mother and daughter duo are still at touch with their creativity as they are currently making more books, of which 500 will be printed in English and the other in Polish with activities in the back for the children to do. The books will go on sale for £5 and £2 of each sale will be donated to Ukraine.
