Denton Community College students cook up a feast

Students from Denton Community College impress as they take over Tameside College’s student restaurant.

16 pupils from the school visited The Restaurant at Tameside One on Friday 11 November, working with hospitality and catering students, to make and serve a set menu.

The pupils spent time in the restaurant’s kitchen, learning how to prepare and cook the three course meal, before working with front of house students, learning about table layup and customer service.

The event was aimed at inspiring the pupils to consider a career in the hospitality and catering industry and to develop links with the local school.

The meal, which was served to the pupils’ family and friends, included: pea and mint soup, chicken chasseur with boulangere potatoes, buttered carrots and kale and to finish, chocolate brownies with ice cream.

Denton Community College’s head teacher, Greg Rule also attended the event to support the students and sample their culinary creations.

David Scanlan, marketing, admissions and school liaison manager at Tameside College, said: “It was excellent to welcome Denton Community College students to Tameside College. It’s extremely important that school pupils get to see what’s on offer once they complete their GCSEs and this was a fantastic way of doing so, whilst also allowing them to impress their family with new skills.”
