Denton Barnardo’s Charity Shop Saved After Uncertainty

Six months ago, staff and volunteers were left shocked after learning that the building’s landlord had put the Stockport Road site on the market TO LET. The move placed the future of the shop in jeopardy and caused deep concern among both the team and the local community.

Last week, however, came the welcome news that negotiations have secured the future of the shop at its current location. Staff and volunteers described the announcement as a “huge sigh of relief,” ensuring the store can continue to serve both customers and those gaining valuable skills through volunteering.

The Denton Barnardo’s branch is not only a popular place for shoppers searching for bargains and quality donated goods, but it also plays a vital role in the community by offering a training environment for volunteers. Many local people have gained new skills and experience in retail through the shop, with some going on to further work and training opportunities.

Trish who works for Barnardo’s said the decision to keep the shop open was a positive step forward: “This store is an important part of the Denton community. We are delighted that it will continue to provide affordable shopping, support for our charity’s work, and valuable training opportunities for our dedicated volunteers.”

Local residents have also welcomed the news, saying the shop brings life to Denton’s high street and supports a cause that helps children and families across the UK.

The Barnardo’s Denton shop will continue trading as usual at its Stockport Road site, much to the joy of the community.
